Macroalgae delta N-15 values in well-mixed estuaries: Indicator of anthropogenic nitrogen input or macroalgae metabolism? ArchiMer
Raimonet, Melanie; Guillou, Gael; Mornet, Francoise; Richard, Pierre.
Although nitrogen stable isotope ratio (delta N-15) in macroalgae is widely used as a bioindicator of anthropogenic nitrogen inputs to the coastal zone, recent studies suggest the possible role of macroalgae metabolism in delta N-15 variability. Simultaneous determinations of delta N-15 of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) along the land sea continuum, inter-species variability of delta N-15 and its sensitivity to environmental factors are necessary to confirm the efficiency of macroalgae delta N-15 in monitoring nitrogen origin in mixed-use watersheds. In this study, delta N-15 of annual and perennial macroalgae (Ulva sp., Enterommpha sp., Fucus vesiculosus and Fucus serratus) are compared to delta N-15-DIN along the Charente Estuary, after...

Origin and composition of sediment organic matter in a coastal semi-enclosed ecosystem: An elemental and isotopic study at the ecosystem space scale ArchiMer
Dubois, S.; Savoye, N.; Gremare, Antoine; Plus, Martin; Charlier, K.; Beltoise, A.; Blanchet, Hugues.
The origin and composition of sediment organic matter (SOM) were investigated together with its spatial distribution in the Arcachon Bay - a macrotidal lagoon that shelters the largest Zostera noltii meadow in Europe - using elemental and isotopic ratios. Subtidal and intertidal sediments and primary producers were both sampled in April 2009. Their elemental and isotopic compositions were assessed. Relative contributions of each source to SOM were estimated using a mixing model. The SOM composition tended to be homogeneous over the whole ecosystem and reflected the high diversity of primary producers in this system. On average, SOM was composed of 25% of decayed phanerogams, 19% of microphytobenthos, 20% of phytoplankton, 19% of river SPOM and 17% of...

Scientometric analysis of energetic ecology: primary production of aquatic macrophytes - DOI: 10.4025/actascibiolsci.v31i4.5139 Biological Sciences
Lolis, Solange de Fátima; Fundação Universidade Federal do Tocantins; Sanches-Marques, Angela Maria Marques; UEM; Arruda Reis, Sebastiana Lindaura; UFMT; Benedito, Evanilde; UEM.
The objective of this work was to perform a temporal quantitative analysis, using the scientometric technique, considering the number of citations that the terms Primary Production of Aquatic Macrophytesand Energetic Ecology received in a 50-year period (1956 to 2006). The study related 189 papers published in 26 magazines. It was verified that researchers of several nationalities are working on the proposed themes, with a predominance of those from developed countries (USA and Germany). In Brazil, production on these themes, although small, coincides with the results obtained for other themes analyzed using the same research technique. This fact indicates that greater efforts should be made in the search for more intense scientific production in the...

TAX POLICY ISSUES - TAXATION OF HUNGARIAN AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITY AgEcon
Molnar, Barna; Goda, Matyas; Kocsis-Andrasik, Agnes.
In modern market economies the majority of state revenues is derived from taxation. Since 1988 the Hungarian regulations on taxation follow the practices of developed countries. The system of burdening is focused/based more and more on consumption instead of production as a result of tax reforms. The different types of enterprises and their activities are subjected to various taxation rules. Unfavourable conditions in agriculture (higher risk, lower profitability) are controlled through the adjustments or reduced tax rates and application of various kinds of tax allowances. The study examines both the theoretical and practical elements of income taxation in the enlarged Europe, particularly the tax schemes employed in Hungary’s agriculture in the period...
